Prior to my relocation to Japan, I was working at one of the American Schools in Shanghai (WASC accredited) and instructing ESL and Japanese to secondary students. I was also teaching local college students at various institutions in Malaysia and Singapore. Besides my teaching experience overseas, I worked at public Junior High Schools (Grade 7 to 9) as an English teacher in Tokyo for 7 years. I also served for a number of years as an interpreter/translator and secretary for various international corporations in Tokyo.
Message from instructor: 初めまして！英文添削を担当させていただく講師の長谷川千秋と言います。現在はアメリカのミネソタ州に住んでいます。父の仕事の関係で５歳から１６歳まで、日本を離れて様々な国に滞在していました。幼い時に異なる文化、生活様式に触れた事が、今現在の自分の世界観を形成する上で多大な影響を受けたと感じています。世界各国の人達と交流を通じて、生き方や考え方の多様性を発見することはとても楽しいことで、自分の視野が広がった喜びも感じることができます。言語を（英語）を学ぶことを通じて、より多くの方達が自身の世界観が広がっていく喜びを味わっていただければ幸いです。 Due to my father’s career, I lived in numerous foreign countries for the first 16 years of my life. Those countries included Paraguay, Argentina, Canada and Australia. As such, I attended different school systems with different emphasis on education where the first language was English. This experience, in addition to the varying cultural exposure at my previous working environments has prepared me well to have a better understanding of language skills that are required in real world. I would like to bring in my experience the most to assist you in learning the real-world language use.
Hobbies / favorite countries / countries visited: 外で活動することが大好きです！週末天気の良い日は、サイクリングをしたり、友人とピクニックしたりして過ごしています。旅行も好きですが、観光名所へ行くことより、小さな街へ出かけ、地元の小さなレストランやカフェを見つけて美味しい料理とワインを楽しむことが好きです。色々な国を訪ねましたが、色々な面でやはり「日本」はとてもユニークな美しい国だと感じています。私の一番大好きな国は昔から変わらず「日本」です！ I love to explore local restaurants or small cafes in different countries and cities. My favorite part is when you find a tasty wine that matches to the local cuisine. I also enjoy doing yoga, biking and watch tennis tournaments. Due to my husband's job, I have been living out of Japan for about 15 years now and when you look your country (Japan) from outside-world, I always feel that Japan is a very unique and beautiful country. Having said that, my favorite country is always JAPAN above all!
Approach to corrections: 生きた英語を学んでいただきたいので、直訳の単語より、現地で使われているフレーズ等を含むコミュニケーション英語をサポートができたらと思っています。コミュニケーション英語は、Time（時間）、Place（場所）、Occasion（場面）が大事です。TPOについても解説したいと考えています。 Since I emphasize on real-world language use, I would like to provide more words or/and phrases (e.g. verbal phrases)that are likely to be used in conversations, more than providing academic idioms or terms. Time（時間）、Place（場所）、Occasion（場面）plays a vital role to use the language appropriately so I would also like to comment on the TPO of the provided languages.
