My wife’s name is Akiko that means “Aki (cheerful character)” and “Ko (child)”. Her name, that is 「明」and 「子」, reflectes with traditional gender view (women should be a child in a family for good) and one of the overused given names. Thus, my wife doesn’t feel impressed with her first name since she realizes an independent and full-time worker of which I am proud. I have two sons and we paid attention to naming with modest images with cool and modern pronunciations to match. My elder son is Tomoki that means “Tomo (having good friends)” and “Ki(hope)”. We wish he would have a lot of good friends and keep having his hope to evolve himself. My younger son is Keisuke that means “Kei (talented individual)” and “Suke (benevolence)”. We wish he would become a talented worker with kindness towards others. My wife and I believe that a first name can describe a person, so we don’t prefer Kirakira naming.
