I think it is ridiculous because there are many other thing we have to attention more than "potato chips". Moreover the reason of poor crop of potato this year is just an unusual climate. For second one, I guess you misunderstood the fact on this case. Actually we can easily gain weight if eating snacks too much. I am a good example. But one thing is very sure that Japanese food products are less calorie than western products. Better not to eat too much potato chips anyway.
