Announcements
Hello everyone! I hope that you are all well. I am currently available for requests. I try to complete most requests in two or three days, but please note that I currently have my deadline set to four days as I may be busy over the next few weeks. Best wishes for the New Year! Roddy
Hobbies/Travel
I have many hobbies! I enjoy photography, reading and writing, watching movies, and playing games. I love music of all kinds, and I play the drums in a rock band and a reggae band. I like animals, too; I live with a dog, a cat, some chickens and some fish. I don't really have a favourite country because I think that every country has its own unique and interesting points, but I lived in Japan for five years and I think of it as my 'second home'. Apart from Japan, I have also visited France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Spain and the USA (the West Coast, at least).
Message from the instructor
Hello! My name is Roddy, and I am an English teacher from the United Kingdom (UK). I studied English and Philosophy at university, and I have also completed the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). I lived in Japan for five years, where I worked as an assistant language teacher (ALT). Usually, I taught at junior and senior high school but sometimes also at elementary school and at a private school (where I mostly taught adults). One of my main jobs as an ALT was correcting students' work, so I have plenty of experience doing text correction with all levels of English ability. When correcting text, I check for spelling and grammar accuracy, of course, but I also carefully consider the tone and purpose of the text (such as whether it is formal or casual, for example). I am happy to look at any kind and length of composition and, although my native tongue for text correction is British English, I am also very happy to work with many different kinds of English, including American and Australian English. I try to always be warm, positive and encouraging, I welcome any questions that you have, and I am very much looking forward to reading your compositions and helping you to improve your work!

Dear Roddy Thank you very much for correcting my essay and providing alternative phrases. Your explanation was easy to understand, so I learned a lot. I would like to be careful and use “a/an” or “s” properly according to the situation. I will review comparative adjective phrases. I would like you to correct my essay again in the future. Have a nice day! Kind regards,

Thank you for your kind and detailed explanation. I learned a lot from your correction! As for correction 2 of sentence 4, it is a little hard for me to use words like “just” appropriately to provide emphasis. I can do it naturally in Japanese… There were a typo in the last sentence. I wanted to write “my grandmother’s birthday present” in it. I’m looking forward to taking your lesson next time!

Thank you so much for your corrections and explanations! I learned that the word "glasses" is always plural, so I should have used "them." According to the 3rd sentence, I learned the phrase "take xx off of", which is not grammatically correct but is often used in casual speaking. Best regards.
