Announcements
Hello everyone! I hope that you are all well. I am currently available for requests. I try to complete most requests in two or three days, but please note that I currently have my deadline set to four days as I may be busy over the next few weeks. Best wishes for the New Year! Roddy
Hobbies/Travel
I have many hobbies! I enjoy photography, reading and writing, watching movies, and playing games. I love music of all kinds, and I play the drums in a rock band and a reggae band. I like animals, too; I live with a dog, a cat, some chickens and some fish. I don't really have a favourite country because I think that every country has its own unique and interesting points, but I lived in Japan for five years and I think of it as my 'second home'. Apart from Japan, I have also visited France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Spain and the USA (the West Coast, at least).
Message from the instructor
Hello! My name is Roddy, and I am an English teacher from the United Kingdom (UK). I studied English and Philosophy at university, and I have also completed the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA). I lived in Japan for five years, where I worked as an assistant language teacher (ALT). Usually, I taught at junior and senior high school but sometimes also at elementary school and at a private school (where I mostly taught adults). One of my main jobs as an ALT was correcting students' work, so I have plenty of experience doing text correction with all levels of English ability. When correcting text, I check for spelling and grammar accuracy, of course, but I also carefully consider the tone and purpose of the text (such as whether it is formal or casual, for example). I am happy to look at any kind and length of composition and, although my native tongue for text correction is British English, I am also very happy to work with many different kinds of English, including American and Australian English. I try to always be warm, positive and encouraging, I welcome any questions that you have, and I am very much looking forward to reading your compositions and helping you to improve your work!

Dear Roddy. Thank you for your review and very DETAILED explanations! I think you are one of the most generous teachers! I want to write NATURAL English sentences rather than grammatically correct sentences. So, your alternatives and feedbacks always make me motivated and also let me know that I still have a long way to go. What’s more, the fact helps me to keep up the momentum! I look forward to sending you the next episode soon! Have a great weekend! Best wishes, Kohei

Hello Roddy, Thank you for your review and very detailed explanations! Wow, I listen to The Interrupters too! I like their song named Title Holder! Actually, I also love Rancid, Operation ivy and Fishbones and so on. Music always brings people together, doesn’t it? ;) About my writing, actually, I’ve already visited India twice and this is the writing of my trip to India. Sorry for making you confused. BUT I enjoyed learning a lot especially from these notes below!! ・have the confidence I think most English learners in Japan have the same problem as me. The tense about this that you told me is very clear and I completely understand it, thank you! ・To backpack I travelled a lot but I didn’t know we can use this as a verb, Thanks! ・Look vs Seem I didn’t know that we use LOOK only to describe the physical appearance and SEEM is for physical appearance, attitude and opinion. and we should use the present tense to use seem in this situation ・Take a trip (for a long journey) vs Make a trip (for a short journey) and I sent you a continuation of this story yesterday. I’m looking forward to reading your review! Have a great day! Best regards, Kohei

Hi, Roddy Thank you for your very elaborate reviews!! I appreciate your explanations! Actually, I dismissed the difference between non-restrictive ('which') relative clauses and restrictive ('that') relative clauses, but your review made me notice how important it is. I'm gonna write other compositions keeping in mind that there's a difference. Please look forward to seeing my sentence! Thank you always, have a great one!!! Best regards, Kohei

Dear Roddy, I'm great, and you? Thank you for your reviews and very detailed but easy-to-understand explanations about grammar!!!! I always want to truly and deeply understand the grammar, vocabulary and tense, so I really appreciate your feedback. In Tokyo, the leaves on the trees change colour and fall between November and December, so it's later than in your country. It tends to snow in January and February. Your feedback always gets me pumped up for this routine English writing work! Have a great one! Best regards, Kohei

Dear, Roddy Thank you for your very detailed reviews! I REALLY appreciate it! I saw your profile, you like Rock and Reggae music, aren't you? I also really like UK Punk and Reggae and Ska. :) When I visited the UK on my business trip, I went to O2 Academy in Brixton to see the Reggae show. My favourite DJ, Sir David Rodigan, is hosting BBC Radio 1Xtra, and going to his show at Royal Albert Hall is on one of my bucket lists!! Anyway, I'm happy that I found one of the best instructors on IDIY. I'm looking forward to asking you to check my next composition. Have a great weekend! Best regards, Kohei

I think that we don’t use difficult maths in our daily life. Although I study it now, I wonder if I use this knowledge at work.
