Dear David san I have found that "Pay off " has a lot of meanings. "Perseverance pays off." is new to me. This means if something you do pays off, it is successful or has a good result. I knew only this one: to pay someone their wages and tell them they no longer have a job. Other than this, here comes :to give someone all the money you owe them, and :to pay someone not to say anything about something illegal. It is hard for me to understand the last one. Thank you for your informative corrections. Best regards,
