My hobbies are surfing, playing in a band with my friends, music, reading and writing, and collecting old books. I live near the beach and go surfing whenever there are some nice waves. I like all kinds of music, especially classical (Beethoven and Bach are my favourites), jazz (Coltrane, Thelonious Monk) and rock and pop (The Beatles, The Who). I have too many favourite books to mention, but one of my all-time favourites is Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield. My love of books is probably why I became a writer myself. I have had two novels published, and am currently working on my third. I also love to travel. I have been to many countries, and have lived in quite a few different ones as well. When I was younger I did a lot of backpacking, especially through Europe. Spain and the Greek Islands were two highlights. I’ve also travelled through South East Asia, which was very beautiful. Of course every new country has new and exciting things to do and see, but the most exciting country I’ve ever been to is Egypt. Seeing the pyramids with my own eyes was amazing! Sadly, I haven’t been to Japan – yet! But I have had many wonderful Japanese students who have all recommended things I should do and see, so I must visit soon.

Hello. My name is Harry, and I have been an English teacher since 1997. Through my long experience of classroom, and private one on one teaching, at all levels from Beginners to Advanced, I am familiar with the kinds of mistakes, large and small, that non-native speakers make when writing. Of course many of these mistakes are grammatical. However, mastering written (or spoken) English is also a matter of being able to use a more natural turn of phrase, or a more appropriate word, where required. This is often the difference between a good and an excellent piece of writing. Being a writer myself, I always try to make every sentence as good as it can be. Sometimes they come out perfect first try, other times I have to rewrite – and rewrite! However, the feeling I get when I have written a good sentence or paragraph is always worth the extra effort. That’s why I always pay the utmost care and attention to every word and sentence – both my own and my students. When a sentence or piece of writing scans, it reads easily and naturally. Helping my students to create such naturally flowing writing has always been one of my chief aims as a teacher. However, I understand that this can at times be difficult and frustrating for a student, especially when something they may have spent a long time working on needs correcting. This is why I am always patient, sympathetic, and above all, encouraging, and am always careful to explain any corrections I have made. I look forward to the opportunity of working with you, and in helping you to create the very best writing that you can.

Thanks for your help. It was hard for me to explain the characteristic drink. Many Japanese words appeared in my brain when I tried to make this paragraph, but I couldn’t translate them properly. I’m so happy to see your advice, I’ll keep to remember them. Thanks again.
