I've heard of Graham Greene as the original author of the famous movie "The Third Man". However, I haven't read his novel. I even didn't know the name of the other authors. I searched their works on the Internet, and I got interested in Ian McEwan especially. I would like to read his novel in Amazon Kindle. I love Kindle because it has a dictionary function. I am always pleased every time you mention your interest in Japan. I think Japanese and Chinese are among the most difficult languages to learn due to the difficulty of Chinese characters. I think Chinese characters are inefficient letter sysyem compared to alphabet (there are 2000 Chinese characters in Japanese!). However, if you learn those characters, you will find their shapes are expressing the things they mean. It may be interesting to imagine the ancient Chinese coined the characters one by one. It make me imagine that British childern are playing there as John Lennon sang in the Beatles' number "Strawberry Fields Forever". In Japan, most strawberries are grown in greenhouses, so it is impossible for children to play in strawberry fields. The weather is getting warm here in Japan too.
