Dear Joyce, I like reading your corrections, suggestions and your story. It helps me a lot. And I'm happy to find that we have something in common, although we live in the completely opposite place on the earth. I usually translate Japanese to English at work. I would like to translate it more professionally in future. To do that I need to read more English, and to write it more as well. Wish you have another good week! Best regards, Maru
Thank you very much
Hi, Joyce. I appreciate your corrections of my English sentences in detail. I am glad that you liked what my chose topic. Wow! you have a wonderful idea "breeding and hatching times". It is so worthwhile observing using the BIKI! Additionally, it is also a good idea "the lens with natural looking green fronds of water plants". I liked them. Thank you for giving me methods of thinking, logical exam essay format, with expositions. They are very helpful to write future essays. I hope to see you next time.
Thanks for your advices! I feel that I want to write more to improve my skill . My monthly subscription is expired tomorrow. I will continue it. Thank you.
Thank you for your explanation about the cultural difference between English communication and Japanese one. I agree with your thought. It is said that Japanese culture is high-context culture. When I communicate with other person, I understand what he meant by considering not only his words, but also his face, attitude, position, situation and so on. For example, Japanese "suimasen" literally means "I'm sorry". But, we use "suimasen", when we apologize someone, and when we appreciate someone. We have to understand the meaning of "suimasen" depending on the situation. In addition, Japanese does't have an article such as "a", "the". We sometimes omit the subject such as "I", "you", "he" when we talk. In my opinion, these high-context culture comes from the geological characteristic. As Japan is small island, there are no big differences among us. We have almost the same idea and the feeling of value. So, it is easy to understand each other without specific words. However, the chances for me to speak with people from foreign countries will increase. I need to learn how to communicate in the English way. Thanks, Yasuo
Dear teacher Joyce I deeply appreciate your kind comment and correction. It was very impressive for me! Thanks you very much! I sometimes have to write English documents in my work. However, writing natural English sentence is very difficult. It have bothered me for a long time… But, you taught me natural English expressions here. Your advice is great help for me to improve my situation. In frankly speaking, I was not familiar with the word “whereas”. Therefore, I tried to use it in the essay. As a result, my try was likely to be a failure… However, since your advice was very kind, I believe that I could advance my understanding of the word. I will try to use it in next opportunity, again. Thank you! Besides, I could learn more from your other advices including your alternative expressions. I’ll also try to use them. I’ll keep up my study in IDIY, so I hope to see you again! Thank you very much! Thanks shinko
