I was surpreised to know that there are a movement for encouraging the urban residenrs to become beekeepers in the US. It seems that the same movement has taken place in the UK. I think this difference stems from the different history of beekeeping in each country. Western countries have a long history of beekeeping, but the beekeeping has never been flourish in Japan. In addition to that, the gardens in Japan is very small compared to the ones in the UK. Recently, some peole are trying to keep fireflies in the urban areas in Japan. Beekeeping in the cities may gain popularity someday in Japan too! Best wishes
